Things that go bump in the night..

They say you learn something new every day. Well, I learned how big of a chicken I really am.. and just how detrimental a big imagination can be..

The big revelation occurred when Tony left town for 7 days to travel to Montana for his daughter's high school graduation. SEVEN days. Man, that's a loooong time. It felt longer than forever the day he left. My last ditch efforts to tag along on the trip failed. I kept hearing things like, "But you just had a baby a week ago.. " and "You just got home from the hospital 4 days ago"... and supposedly those were good enough reasons for me and baby not to go with. And of course, the tears did nothing to help my case because those were easily dismissed as postpartum hormones.

Ok, I can do this. I can handle a week without Tony. I mean, I'm old hat when it comes to being just myself and my children in the house. Right? I mean, I can do this! No big deal...

I heard noises. I called Tony to tell him that I heard noises. It's 3:00 in the morning and I swear that I heard noises. It sounded like a car with bass in the stereo sitting outside. I couldn't bring myself to walk to the front of the house and look outside. It's too dark to see out there anyway. And what if I go to look out of the blinds and see someone or something outside? My stomach turned at the mere thought.

So, this lasted the whole time he was gone. The noises. Me freaking out over every little shift and creak... It lasted until Tony came home. Then they mysteriously went away.

I had never heard them before because Tony was always here.
